7th January 2025 - Happy New Year

It has been lovely to welcome all of the children back into school today after our Christmas break. We have a packed term ahead of us with trips, sporting events and exciting class work to look forward to. 

15th & 22nd January - Reception phonics stay and learn sessions

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who took part in our phonics workshops this term. We hope you enjoyed finding out about how we teach phonics in school and taking part in some of the activities that help to support your child.

13th February - Valentine Disco

It was lovely to see lots of our children smiling and having fun at our Valentine's disco night tonight. You all looked amazing!

25th February - First Aid in Sport event

Pupils from 8 local schools attended an ATSA First Aid for Sport session at Garrett Hall today. Pupils learned how to call 999, use their mobile phones to obtain their exact location and deal with injuries involving conscious & unconscious patients, heavy bleeding and how to administer chest compressions. It was a busy afternoon!

4th March - Titanic workshop

Our Year two children took part in a Titanic workshop today with Altru drama company. The children enjoyed bringing their topic to life using drama and acting skills. 

Week beginning 10th March - Low Bank Ground

Our Year 6 children are embarking on a residential week in Coniston today where they will take part in lots of outdoor and adventurous activities such as hill walking, kayaking, gill scrambling, orienteering and much more! We are sure they will have lots of fun. 

11th March - Year 3 trip to Chester

Grosvenor Museum, Chester

Our Year three children visited Chester this week as part of their topic work on the Romans. They marched around Chester as Roman soldiers and visited The Grosvenor Museum to take part in a variety of workshops.

26th March - KS1 dance competition

Congratulations to our KS1 dance team who won first place at a dance competition this afternoon. You were all amazing!

9th & 10th January - snow and ice!

 Thank you to everyone for your co-operation and understanding during these last few days when we adapted our procedures for the start and end of the school day. This meant that we were able to stay open and safe during the snowy and icy conditions for all of our children. 

17th January - ATSA Football

A massive well done and congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 football team, who today won both of their matches 10-0! A fantastic achievement! 

20th January - Dodgeball

12th February - Zumba!

      

Some of our children tried out a new sport today at the ATSA Y3/4 Zumba Taster.

4th March - Biggest Football Session Ever!

Children throughout school have been taking part in the biggest football session ever this week, promoting girls football where they took charge and refereed each game! 

4th March - learning through the arts

Manchester Art Gallery | United Kingdom  Home | The Bridgewater Hall

Our Year five children enjoyed a trip to the Manchester Art Museum and Bridgewater hall today to learn more about the appreciation of the arts. All of the children had a fantastic day. 

8th March - Cross Country Success

A massive well done to the Cross Country team who peformed brilliantly at the Graham Jacket XC competition this morning. Ist place team for the LKS2 Boys & Girls teams and 3rd place for the UKS2 Boys & Girls teams. Boys & Girls teams both won 1st place overall & ensured an ATSA victory against Wigan schools. Further medals were also won for superb individual top 3 finishes in Boys & Girls races. The sun shone & the children represented the school admirably. Well done to all who took part.

26th March - Orienteering

Our Year 6 team had a fantastic time orienteering this afternoon.

Children across school have been excitedly taking part in the worlds largest garden wildlife survey this week. They have been busy counting and identifying birds in and around our school grounds.

4th February - PE Summit

Representatives of Garrett Hall attended Wigan's inspirational  Progress with Unity PE Summit today.

10th February - Children's mental health week

Thank you to our Wellbeing champions who have sold keychains and accessories this week and raised £222 for Place2be - a children's mental health charity.

5th March - Swimming Gala

Well done to our swimming team who took part in the ATSA swimming gala today. You were all amazing!

6th March - World Book Day

World Book Day 2025 - Whole-School Workshops and Teaching Resources

Children throughout school enjoyed celebrating World Book Day today by coming to school dressed in the PJ's! They shared each others favourite bedtime books and took part in lots of story telling activities. 

Week beginning 3rd March - Chicks!

What We Do - Living Eggs Living Eggs

Our Nursery children have enjoyed watching their living eggs hatch into chicks over the last few weeks. The excitement, wonder and awe that they expressed was wonderful to see. 

12th March - Kurling competition

A massive congratulations to our KS2 Kurling team who played at Leigh Sports Village today in the festival and won GOLD against seven other Wigan schools! They will now go on to represent Wigan in the Greater Manchester finals.
