Autumn Events 2024
6th September - Welcome back!
It has been lovely to welcome all of the children back to school this week, including all of our new Nursery and Reception children. We are all very excited abut the year ahead.
18th September - Year 6 visit to FLHS
Our Year 6 children enjoyed a morning visit to Fred Longworth High School this morning as part of a transition event to prepare them for their High School choices later this year.
27th September - Macmillan Coffee morning
Thank you to all those people who supported our Macmillan Coffee morning today. We raised over £100 to send to this very worthy cause.
8th October - Panathlon Challenge
A number of our children today took part in a Panathlon event at Hope College. They represented our school brilliantly. Well done children!
17th October - Cross Country
Well done to the Garrett Hall cross country team who ran in the ATSA XC finals this morning. They ran brilliantly in wet, muddy conditions to finish 3rd overall. Well done!
30th October - Primary Dance Leaders Festival
A huge well done to our Year 5 and Year 6 dancers who took part in the dance festival at Fred Longworth High School tonight. The whole show was amazing and the children put on a fantastic performance! Well done everyone!
8th November - Intra-House Sports Day
Our children enjoyed their first Intra-House Sports Day of the year. All classes competed in a variety of sports. The overall winners this time were:
1st Place - Bodmin
2nd Place - Henfold
3rd Place - Stour
Well done everyone!
25th November - Badminton Taster
Our children enjoyed a fun filled session developing their badminton skills this afternoon with other schools from ATSA. Well done!
Week beginning 9th December - Nativities
Well done to all the children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 this week for your fantastic performances in your nativities. You made all of your grown ups and teachers proud. They were all amazing!
13th December - Santa Dash!
The children throughout school have had a great time today taking part in a Santa dash wearing their Christmas jumpers.
9th September - The Anglng Trust
Our Year 3 children have enjoyed a session in school this afternoon learning about the basics of course fishing with The Angling Trust and Reel Education. They enjoyed finding out about fishing and protecting our waterways.
Week beginning 16th September - EYFS children start school
It has been lovely to welcome all of our new Reception and Nursery children into school this week. They have all settled in brilliantly and already feel part of our Garrett Hall family.
23rd September - Meet the teacher
It was lovely to see so many parents and carers at our 'meet the teacher' event this afternoon. We hope you found the sessions helpful in supporting your child in their new classes.
8th & 9th October - Parents/Carers Evenings
Thank you to all of those parents and carers who attended our parents evenings this week to meet your child's teachers and discuss their progress and attainment in school.
Thank you also to all of those people who purchased a book from the Scholastic Book Fair. Your purchases help us to buy new books for school.
29th October - Pumpkin Competition
Thank you for all of your wonderful entries into our annual pumpkin competition. Your master-pieces were fantastic!
7th November - Just Join In
Our just join in team enjoyed their inclusive events at the Wigan Youth Zone today. They took part in lots of different and exciting activities.
11th November - Remembrance Day event
This afternoon, some of our Key Stage Two choir took part in Fred Longworth High School’s ‘Concert of Remembrance’ to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Tyldesley Branch of the Royal British Legion.
A huge thank you to our children for their excellent behaviour and fantastic performance. You did us proud.
14th November - Year 1 trip to Imagine That!
Year 1 had an amazing time on their first school trip to Imagine That!
The children enjoying playing in the roleplay area being hairdressers, pizza chefs, builders, news reporters, shopkeepers, firefighters and lots of other exciting things.
Then we went into the art area and painted our own fridge magnets. We hope they look lovely in your homes. We played outside, climbed on the obstacle course and dug for fossils. In the afternoon, we watched a science show and made our own slime! We then explored the science area by finding out how things work and having a go at different experiments. We even made our own snow and ended up in a snow storm!
What a fantastic first trip! Well done to all the children for being so sensible and doing Garrett Hall proud.

Week beginning 16th December - Christmas Parties!
The children throughout school have enjoyed a very festive week of Christmas parties and crafts to finish off a wonderful term in school. Happy Christmas everyone.
17th September - Year 2 trip to Staircase House
Our lovely Year 2 children have enjoyed a fascinating day at Staircase House in Stockport today to learn all about their new topic - 'The Great Fire of London'.
18th September - going platinum!
Garrett Hall has been awarded their first Platinum School Games Mark today by Tom Amone from Leigh Leopards. We are very proud!
3rd October - Poetry Day
The children across school enjoyed taking part in Poetry Day today. They shred their favourite rhymes and poems along with reciting class verses as groups.
11th October - Harvest festival
Thank you for your kind donations towards our Harvest festival today. Warren from Atherton Food Bank came into school to deliver our assembly and was blown away by our display. Your generosity will support lots of local people.
29th October - Halloween Disco!
It was lovely to see so many of our children at their Halloween disco tonight. Your fancy dress costumes were fantastic and very spooky indeed!
7th November - Imperial War Museum visit
Our Year 6 children visited the Imperial War Museum in Manchester today as part of their topic work. To see some photographs of the visit, please see our Facebook page:
22nd November - Year 3 trip to Bolton Museum
Year 3 enjoyed a great day learning about Ancient Egypt at Bolton Museum today. They made a sarcophagus, dressed up in Egyptian clothes, weighed their teachers' hearts on the scales of Anubis and even saw the remains of an actual Ancient Egyptian while exploring the hieroglyphics in King Thutmose' tomb!
27th November - Year 6 Dance competition
Our Year 6 dancers came home with a whopping 6 trophies today! They competed in the KS2 Strictly Come Dancing ATSA competition. They came 1st place in both the jive and cha cha. They also placed 2nd and 3rd in each dance too! We are so proud of you all.
13th December - Christmas coloured hampers
Thank you to everyone who contributed items for our annual Christmas hampers today. We have made over £630 for our school funds in raffle ticket sales and made 16 hampers! The lucky winners have been drawn and contacted.
